Obituary- Jules Eaton
Gp Capt J G (Jules) EATON MBE MA MDA BSc RAF Regt (Retd), born 27 Nov 61, died in a paramotoring accident in South Devon on Saturday 22 Jun 19. He joined the RAF as a University Cadet in 1980 and underwent 72 IOTC at the RAF College Cranwell in 1983 and then the Jnr Regt Offrs’ Crse 1/84 at the RAF Regt Depot Catterick. He served variously in Northern Ireland, Cyprus, Bosnia, Kuwait, Iraq, Uganda and Afghanistan, during which he commanded 34 Sqn and 4 Tac STO Wg RAF Regt. More recent appointments included the Military Strategic Planning Team in Libya; NATO Reaction Force Air Staff, Kalkar as a NATO and European Policy planning officer; MODUK, as the Senior British Planning Officer, Strategic Plans Branch, HQ ISAF Kabul, and a secondment to Westminster Abbey for 6-months as a Protocol Officer for the Wedding of TRHs The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and then the State Visit by US President, Barrack Obama, in 2011. He retired from the RAF on medical grounds in 2012. He was a Steward at Westminster Abbey from 2006 until his death.
A private family funeral will take place in the morning of Fri 19 Jul. A Service of Thanksgiving will be held at 14:30 on the same day at Holy Trinity Church, Watermoor, Cirencester, Glos GL7 1JR. Parking is limited and extra time should be allowed for parking in local streets and car parks. No flowers please, but donations in his name may be made to Help for Heroes, the RAFBF or Longfield Hospice , Minchinhampton (of which he was CEO). There will be a Reception afterwards at the Kings Head Hotel, 24 Market Place, Cirencester, GL7 2NR (a 10-15 min walk from the Church). Dress may be military or organisation uniform as appropriate or desired, or ‘cheerful’ (non-black ties).
