Following on from the creation of the RAF Regiment & Associated Forces’ Badges area on the ground floor of the RAF Club and the huge success in mounting no less than 24 badges there in 2021, the project continued with the presentation of two more badges on 22nd July 2022.
The badges of the Aden Protectorate Levies – that the RAF Regiment commanded in the period 1946-57 – and the RAF Levies (Iraq) – similarly commanded from 1946-55 – were duly presented by the Regiment’s Badges Project Coordinator, Wg Cdr Martin Hooker to Club Trustee, Wg Cdr Paula Willmot, acting on behalf of the Chair of the Arts Committee.- In attendance
The Stewart brothers were there as Corps supporters and to honour their late father, Squadron Leader Jock Stewart, who served in the APL, won an MC in the process and then went on to command No27 Squadron RAF Regiment.
AVM Smeath, currently the Defence Attache and Head of the British Defence Staff (United States) in Washington DC is, of course, the Commandant General RAF Regiment.
Further RAF Regiment badges are in the pipeline and the quest continues for sponsorship by the Corps officers and its supporters.
Grateful thanks are due, once again, to the RAF Club for the provision of the prestigious Club area for the Corps’ badges, and to Matthew Kent for his continuing support to the venture.
