Falkland Islands – The Black Eagle Has Landed! I’m delighted to report that the new Black Eagle Monument has been installed on Canopus Hill in the Falkland Islands. It looks super and the Turkey Vultures approve – they have a new leader it seems!
The new Black Eagle is a faithful, full-size reproduction of the 1983 original, but made to a higher standard and with low-corrosion COR-TEN steel that should last 1,600 years.
The old one (no2) will be returned to the RAF Regiment Heritage Centre for display in due course. We’ve decided to leave the old (no2) brass plaque in position as it is embedded deeply in the cairn and it would be too difficult to remove.
The new monument was funded fully by the Centurion Fund through the Executive Council of the Corps Memorial Garden, the latter now being responsible for its husbandry in the future.
A re-Dedication Ceremony is planned for later this year.

I’m also setting up a support network in the Falkland Islands to oversee its husbandry on the Executive Council’s behalf. But a good result and a credit to the CMG Exco team. I doubt I’ll be involved with the 4th version!
