From the National Chairman RAF Regiment Association
Christmas 2017; it has been quite an amazing year celebrating 75 Glorious Years of the Corps. I wish to sincerely thank everyone involved in making this a memorable year and to so many Association members and families that supported the numerous events that we have been part of.
The Annual RAF Regiment Chapel Commemoration at Catterick and the Annual Reunion and AGM at Cambridge and Honington were extremely well attended and enjoyed by all. Our Standard was paraded this year during both performances of the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall. On Sunday 12th November, 217 Rocks and ladies formed up on Horse Guards for the Annual Remembrance Parade pass the Cenotaph. We were the largest contingent on parade and it was a great honour for me to lead it. Following the parade, we retired to the ‘The Horse & Stables’ for refreshments – the pub was advised to expect a large number – and it certainly was ‘dressing without intervals’ inside the pub. The chatter and photographs posted on social media suggested that all who attended the parade were proud to have done so and are already making plans for next year. 2018 is of course RAF 100 and no doubt we will be represented at some of the events and celebrations. Our 2018 AGM & Reunion will be held over the weekend 12th – 14th October at the Park Inn Hotel, Nottingham.
The Commandant General’s 2017 Commendations were awarded to our long serving members, Ron Kennedy (Suffolk Branch), Julia Smith (Sussex Branch) and Alan Day (S&W Wales Branch). I am sure you will join me in congratulating them for their loyal and committed service to our Association.
Once again, stay safe and raise a glass to our troops who carry the name of our Corps on operations around the world and also think about those gone on and those in difficulties. My family joins me in wishing you, your families and loved ones, a very happy, peaceful Christmas and New Year.
