I am both proud and honoured to have assumed the appointment of CG and look forward to leading the Corps through whatever challenges we encounter in 2012 and beyond.
Having been away for the past year, at the Higher Command and Staff Course followed by a tour in Afghanistan, it is very heartening to return and see all that has been achieved over the past 12 months. It is also abundantly clear that every member of the RAF Regt (regular and auxiliary) has remained enormously committed, dedicated and focussed on our tasks – well done and thank you!
As ever our operational credibility and capability is exceptionally strong and our wider contribution to the RAF and UK Defence is fully appreciated. Our ability to rapidly adapt to changing circumstances and evolving threats has proved as vital as ever and this has manifested itself both in Afghanistan and (in small specialist tasks) in Libya. Of particular note, the Corps’ lead in the provision of specialist chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) capabilities for UK Defence in an evolving and pivotal strategic capability.
Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to wish all members of the Corps – both serving and retired – and their families, a Very Merry Christmas and Happy and Healthy 2012. My particular thoughts go out to those currently deployed in Afghanistan and around the world at this time. Per Ardua.
